Malawi’s Vice President, Saulos Chilima, has been confirmed dead following a plane crash, President Lazarus Chakwera announced. The wreckage was found in Chikangawa Forest with no survivors.
Disappearance and Search Efforts
The aircraft, a military plane, went missing from airport radars on Monday morning during a domestic flight. Vice President Chilima and nine others were on board, flying in adverse weather conditions. Soldiers conducted an extensive search in Chikangawa Forest overnight and into the following morning to locate the missing plane.
Official Confirmation
In a news briefing on Tuesday, President Chakwera stated that the Malawi Defence Force commander had informed him of the completion of the search and rescue operation. The plane was found, but sadly, there were no survivors. The aircraft was discovered completely destroyed.

President Chakwera expressed his deep sorrow and regret over the incident. He conveyed his condolences to the nation, emphasizing the tragic loss of Vice President Saulos Chilima and the other passengers aboard the ill-fated flight.
