Starting July 31, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) will extend the response time for lower priority medical cases to up to 20 minutes. This adjustment aims to better allocate resources to more critical emergencies.
Affected Cases
Individuals who call “995” for lower priority issues, such as minor burns or low blood sugar (where the patient remains alert), will experience this “slightly longer” response time.
Resource Prioritization
The SCDF explained that this change will provide greater flexibility to prioritize resources for emergencies requiring immediate attention, such as cardiac arrests and respiratory issues.
Current Response Standards
Currently, the SCDF aims to dispatch an ambulance to an incident location within 11 minutes for 80 percent of the calls. The new policy is designed to ensure that critical cases receive prompt medical attention, while less urgent cases are still addressed in a timely manner.
