Sri Lanka has been hit by severe monsoon rains resulting in floods and landslides across various regions. The country’s Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has confirmed that these catastrophic weather conditions have led to the deaths of at least seven people.
Tragic Losses
In Sitawaka, located just outside the capital city of Colombo, a tragic incident occurred where three family members lost their lives due to flooding in their home. The rapid rise in water levels led to their house being submerged, leaving little chance for escape.
Disruptions and Warnings
The relentless rains have caused significant disruptions throughout the region, including power outages in multiple areas. For safety reasons, authorities have ordered the closure of schools on Monday to ensure the safety of students and staff. Additionally, the government has issued landslide warnings in nine districts, urging residents to be vigilant and prepared to evacuate if necessary.
