The overall supply of Certificates of Entitlement (COEs) will increase by 2.7 per cent in the May to July period compared to the previous quarter, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on Wednesday (Apr 24). The total number of COEs will rise from 14,707 to 15,104.
Category Breakdown
The COE quota for Category A, which is for smaller cars, will increase by 3 per cent. For larger cars in Category B, the quota will go up by 1.3 per cent. The Open Category (Category E), typically used to register larger cars, will see a 12.9 per cent increase in the COE supply. The supply for commercial vehicles in Category C will also increase, rising by 5.3 per cent.
Motorcycles Quota Remains Unchanged
While most categories will experience an increase in COE supply, the quota for motorcycles in Category D will remain unchanged during this period.
Temporary COEs for Bidding
LTA also announced that the 266 Open Category temporary COEs that expired between January and March will be available for bidding in the May to July quarter, adding more options for prospective buyers in this period.
Conclusion
The increase in COE quota provides additional opportunities for vehicle buyers and dealers in the upcoming quarter. The largest increase is in the Open Category, indicating greater flexibility for car buyers. Those interested in participating in the bidding should be aware of the new quota and adjust their plans accordingly.
