In light of recent escalations in the Middle East, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Singapore has issued a travel advisory urging Singaporeans to defer all travel to Iran. This recommendation comes following Iran’s significant military response against Israeli territory on April 13.
Staying Vigilant
For Singaporeans currently in Iran, the MFA stresses the importance of remaining vigilant and keeping abreast of ongoing developments. The advisory specifically responds to the volatile security situation after Iran launched a series of explosive drones and missiles.
Background of Tensions
The tensions escalated following an alleged Israeli attack on Iran’s consulate in Damascus on April 1, which resulted in the deaths of seven officers of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, including two high-ranking commanders. While Israel has not officially acknowledged the strike, Iran has expressed its intentions for retaliation, leading to the recent attacks.
Consular Assistance and Registration
The MFA advises Singaporeans traveling to or residing in Iran to register online through the ministry’s e-register system at https://eregister.mfa.gov.sg. This registration helps the ministry maintain contact and provide necessary assistance swiftly if required. Additionally, Singaporeans needing consular help in Iran are directed to reach out to the MFA Duty Office for support.
