Grab, the widely recognized digital technology and ride-hailing platform, has announced that it will cease the operations of its GrabPay Card effective from June 1. This decision encompasses both the digital and physical iterations of the card, which were introduced in 2019 in collaboration with Mastercard as Asia’s inaugural numberless card. Following this date, cardholders will no longer be able to execute online or in-store transactions using their GrabPay Card.
Launched with much fanfare, the GrabPay Card was designed to enhance the convenience of spending from the GrabPay e-wallet balance, also rewarding users with GrabRewards points for their purchases, particularly with food and beverage outlets. An innovative feature of the card is its numberless design, with all crucial card details securely housed within the Grab application. This also included a PIN-protected function allowing users to instantly freeze their card in case of loss, directly from the app.
