On March 19, a fire erupted in a Clementi Housing Board flat, prompting an emergency response that led to three occupants being hospitalized. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was called to the scene after reports of the fire in the residential unit located on the fourth floor.
Swift SCDF Response
Upon arrival, SCDF personnel were greeted with thick black smoke emanating from the affected unit. Firefighters quickly sprang into action, utilizing a water jet to douse the flames that had engulfed the contents of one of the rooms. The intense heat and smoke from the blaze also caused considerable damage to the living room area.
Occupants Evacuated and Hospitalized
Fortunately, all occupants had vacated the premises prior to the arrival of the SCDF teams. Three individuals from the unit, however, suffered from smoke inhalation and required medical attention. They were promptly transported to Singapore General Hospital for treatment.
Investigation Points to PMA
A preliminary probe into the cause of the fire suggests it likely originated from a personal mobility aid (PMA) that was being charged in the room at the time. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential hazards associated with charging such devices and underscores the importance of adhering to safety guidelines to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
