In a gesture to make up for opportunities missed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, students who were unable to attend National Day Parade (NDP) National Education shows (NE) in previous years are now being given a special invitation. The Ministry of Defence (Mindef) announced that current Secondary 3 students and those who will be in Sec 3 in 2025 from Ministry of Education (MOE) institutions are the target of this initiative.
Pandemic’s Impact on Annual Tradition
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, students from the cohorts of Primary 5 in 2020 and 2021 missed their chance to experience the NE shows, a tradition that forms an integral part of Singapore’s National Education curriculum. These shows are designed to instill a sense of national pride and understanding of Singapore’s heritage among young students.
Registration Details for Eligible Students
To facilitate this opportunity, Mindef stated that invitations would be extended through the MOE’s Parents Gateway portal on March 20 and 21. Parents of the current Sec 3 students are encouraged to express their interest by March 27 for one of the three NE shows slated for 2024 – on July 6, July 13, or July 20. As for students who will be in Sec 3 in 2025, they can expect to receive their invitations the following year, ensuring that no student from these cohorts misses out on this enriching experience.
