Starting March 19, individuals and groups traveling by car through Singapore’s Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints will have the option to use QR codes for immigration clearance, bypassing the traditional passport check. This move by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) aims to streamline the border crossing process.
Easy Set-Up Process
To utilize this new system, travelers are required to download the MyICA mobile application and input their passport information. Singapore residents have the added convenience of auto-filling their details via Singpass or scanning their passport’s machine-readable zone with their smartphone camera.
Individual and Group Options
The MyICA app offers flexibility by allowing the generation of both individual and group QR codes. While individual codes need information from a single passport, group codes can consolidate details from up to ten travelers, making it ideal for families or friends traveling together in one vehicle.
Checkpoint Procedure
Upon arrival at the checkpoint, the QR codes are to be scanned at designated counters. ICA officers will then perform in-person verifications to ensure the accuracy of the information provided. It’s crucial that all members of a group QR code travel in the same vehicle, as discrepancies will lead to the rejection of the code.
