Swift Response to Engine Room Fire
A fire broke out in the engine room of a ship anchored in the East Johor Straits on Monday morning, October 21. All 22 crew members aboard the vessel were safely evacuated, with no injuries reported, according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
Emergency Response Teams Deployed
Multiple emergency response units were quickly dispatched to tackle the blaze, including an MPA patrol craft, two Police Coast Guard vessels, three Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) marine firefighting and rescue vessels, and two tug boats. In total, 30 marine firefighting specialists from the Brani Marine and West Coast Marine fire stations responded to the incident.
No Disruption to Vessel Traffic
The ship remains anchored in the East Johor Straits, and authorities confirmed that vessel traffic in the area has not been affected by the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation as efforts continue to ensure the safety of the ship and surrounding waters.
