Higher Healthcare Subsidies for Up to 1.1 Million Singapore Residents Starting October 1
From October 1, more Singaporeans will benefit from expanded government healthcare subsidies across a wide range of services, including public hospitals, specialist clinics, and dialysis centres. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung announced on September 30 that these subsidies will now extend to individuals from households with higher incomes.
Raised Income Thresholds for Subsidy Eligibility
The monthly per capita household income (PCHI) threshold for each subsidy tier will be raised by $100 to $800. This adjustment will allow more households to qualify for healthcare subsidies, making medical treatments and services more affordable for residents across the country.
Expanded Coverage Across Multiple Healthcare Services
In addition to public hospitals, the higher subsidies will apply to a variety of healthcare services, including MediShield Life premiums and devices for seniors, such as hearing aids and wheelchairs. The changes also mean more people will qualify for the Chas Blue card, as the income threshold for eligibility has increased from $1,200 to $1,500.
Higher Subsidies for MediShield Life Premiums
The PCHI to qualify for the highest subsidy tier for MediShield Life health insurance premiums will also rise from $1,200 to $1,500, providing greater financial relief to a broader segment of Singapore’s population. The expansion of these subsidies is expected to benefit up to 1.1 million residents.
