East-West Line MRT Services Set to Fully Resume on October 1
Train services along Singapore’s East-West Line will fully resume on October 1, following six days of disruption caused by severe track damage between Jurong East and Buona Vista MRT stations. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT announced that services would be restored from the start of passenger operations.
Temporary Speed Limit Imposed for Safety on Repaired Sections
For safety reasons, a temporary speed limit of 40 km/h will be imposed on westbound trains traveling along the repaired sections of the tracks. This speed restriction is lower than the usual 60-80 km/h and will remain in place until October 3. The measure is a standard safety protocol following rail replacements, ensuring the tracks are stable before normal operations resume.
Six-Day Service Disruption Addressed with Repairs and Precautions
The six-day disruption, which affected thousands of commuters, was caused by extensive track damage that required immediate attention. With repairs completed, SMRT and LTA have implemented additional precautions to ensure the safe operation of trains, gradually returning to full speed after the initial safety checks.
