All Beaches Affected by Oil Spill Fully Reopen, East Coast Park Resumes Water Activities
The entire stretch of beach at East Coast Park has fully reopened for all water activities, including swimming and wakeboarding, following the successful completion of oil spill clean-up operations earlier this month. This marks the reopening of all public beaches affected by the June oil spill.
Full Reopening After Months of Restricted Access
East Coast Park had previously reopened in August for non-primary contact water sports such as kayaking. However, the National Parks Board (NParks) advised the public to avoid activities involving direct contact with the water, such as swimming, due to safety concerns. With the final clean-up complete, all restrictions have now been lifted.
Oil Spill Origin and Impact
The oil spill occurred on June 14 after a collision between a Netherlands-flagged dredger and a Singapore-flagged bunker vessel at Pasir Panjang Terminal. The spill had affected several beaches across Singapore, including East Coast Park, which is the last to fully reopen for water activities following the incident.
