China Test Launches Intercontinental Ballistic Missile for First Time Since 1980s
China has successfully launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) into the Pacific Ocean, marking its first such test in decades. The missile, which carried a dummy warhead, flew over the northern Philippines before landing in the “high seas” of the Pacific, according to Chinese authorities. This is the first known test of an ICBM by China since the early 1980s.
PLA Conducts Test Amid Rising Global Scrutiny
The missile launch was conducted by the People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force (PLARF) on Wednesday. The Chinese defence ministry stated that the launch was part of a “routine arrangement” in its annual training plan and emphasized that the missile fell within the expected sea areas. The ministry added that the test was not directed at any specific nation or target, despite growing international concerns over China’s nuclear arsenal and military capabilities.
