Elderly Woman Dies After Fire in Choa Chu Kang Flat
An elderly woman tragically lost her life in a fire that broke out in a Housing Board flat in Choa Chu Kang during the early hours of September 24. The fire occurred at Block 692A Choa Chu Kang Crescent, prompting a swift response from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
Firefighters Respond to Early-Morning Blaze
Firefighters from Bukit Batok Fire Station and Woodlands Fire Station were alerted to the fire at around 5:30 a.m. The fire had engulfed both the living room and a bedroom of a ninth-floor unit, requiring firefighters to force entry into the flat.
Victim Pronounced Dead at the Scene
Upon entering the flat, firefighters discovered the elderly woman in one of the bedrooms and carried her out. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.
Evacuation of 150 Residents
As a precaution, around 150 residents from the block were evacuated by police and SCDF personnel. The evacuation ensured the safety of residents while the fire was brought under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
