SCDF to Sound “Important Message” Signal on September 15
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has announced that the “Important Message” signal from the islandwide Public Warning System (PWS) will be sounded on September 15 at 6:20 p.m. The siren is part of an annual exercise aimed at familiarizing the public with emergency signals.
Signal to Be Broadcast on Smartphones via SGSecure App
In addition to the islandwide siren, the signal will also trigger alerts on smartphones with the SGSecure mobile app installed, provided the app’s notification and alert settings are enabled. The alert, which lasts for 20 seconds, will be followed by a brief text message explaining the nature of the PWS signal.
Raising Public Awareness on Emergency Response
The PWS siren exercise is part of SCDF’s ongoing efforts to increase public awareness about how to respond during emergencies. Held annually, this drill serves to educate the public on recognizing PWS signals and taking appropriate action when necessary.
