A search is currently underway for a missing crew member after the tugboat OSHIO sank in Singapore waters, according to a statement from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on Wednesday, September 4.
Tugboat Sinks at Eastern Anchorage
The tugboat OSHIO went down in the Eastern Anchorage within Singapore’s port limits. At the time of the incident, two crew members were onboard the vessel. The circumstances surrounding the sinking are still under investigation.
One Crew Member Rescued but Later Dies
The Police Coast Guard (PCG) responded swiftly to the incident, rescuing a 39-year-old crew member. He was transported to a hospital but, unfortunately, later succumbed to his injuries. The other crew member remains missing as search efforts continue.
Salvage and Safety Operations Underway
MPA has deployed salvage divers to confirm the exact location of the sunken tugboat, initiating salvage operations. In the meantime, navigational broadcasts have been issued to warn vessels to steer clear of the area to ensure safety during the ongoing efforts.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident while search and recovery operations are in progress.
