Starting December 1, 2025, unmanned aircraft (UA) weighing more than 250g will be required to have a Broadcast Remote Identification (B-RID) module installed, as part of efforts by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) to enhance public safety and security.
Broadcast Remote Identification for Safety and Security
The new requirement mandates that UAs, including drones, radio-controlled aircraft, and remote-controlled kites, must be equipped with the B-RID module. This “digital licence plate” will allow authorities to identify unmanned aircraft in the sky, thereby improving safety and security measures.
CAAS to Cover Costs for Eligible Users
To support the implementation of this regulation, CAAS plans to cover the full cost of the B-RID module for eligible users. This move aims to ease the transition for operators as they comply with the new safety requirements.
Exceptions to the Requirement
Not all unmanned aircraft operators will need to install the B-RID module. The requirement does not apply to those operating their devices indoors or in enclosed environments. Additionally, operators who have been granted an operator permit and are using the FlyItSafe mobile application during their permitted operations are also exempt from the B-RID installation.
Enhancing Airspace Management
This new regulation is part of a broader strategy to ensure that Singapore’s airspace remains safe and secure as the use of unmanned aircraft continues to grow. The B-RID system will play a crucial role in managing the increasing number of UAs in the skies, providing authorities with the tools needed to monitor and regulate their use effectively.
