The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy have commenced a bilateral exercise running from September 1 to September 5.
Key Naval Assets and Activities
The exercise features Singapore’s Formidable-class frigate, RSS Stalwart, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) on September 1. This joint exercise involves a variety of naval operations, including gunnery firing drills, helicopter cross-deck landings, and familiarization with voice procedures for simulated firings.
Bilateral Cooperation and Training
In a prior announcement on August 29, Mindef highlighted the collaborative nature of the exercise, emphasizing the participation of personnel from both navies. These exercises are designed to enhance mutual understanding and operational compatibility between the RSN and the PLA Navy.
Opening Ceremony in China
The opening ceremony for the exercise was held on September 1 at the Ma Xie Naval Base in Zhanjiang, China. The event marks the beginning of a series of coordinated activities aimed at strengthening naval ties and cooperation between Singapore and China.
