The Singapore Sports School is set to move from its current location in Woodlands to the Kallang Alive precinct, as part of a broader development plan aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure in the area.
New Campus to Foster Athlete Development
The relocation to Kallang will allow student-athletes to train alongside senior athletes, fostering a more integrated sports environment. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced the move during his National Day Rally speech on August 18, highlighting the benefits of bringing young and senior athletes together in one centralized location.
Part of the Kallang Alive Masterplan
The move is part of the larger Kallang Alive Masterplan, which aims to transform the Kallang area into a premier sports and lifestyle destination. The new campus will feature expanded facilities, including the capacity to accommodate 18,000 students and athletes, significantly increasing the school’s ability to nurture sports talent.
Legacy of the Singapore Sports School
The Singapore Sports School, which officially opened in April 2004, has been a cornerstone of sports education and training in Singapore for nearly two decades. The new location at Kallang is expected to build on this legacy, offering enhanced opportunities for student-athletes to excel both academically and in their respective sports.
The relocation marks a significant step forward in Singapore’s commitment to developing world-class athletes and providing state-of-the-art facilities to support their growth.
