The Rolling Stones have officially disclosed the details of their upcoming album, “Hackney Diamonds,” marking their first collection of original material since 2005 and their inaugural release since the passing of their esteemed drummer, Charlie Watts.
“Hackney Diamonds” comprises 12 tracks and is scheduled for release on October 20, with the lead single, “Angry,” to precede it.
The album announcement took place on Wednesday in Hackney, where Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Sir Mick Jagger revealed the exciting news.
During the announcement, Keith Richards reflected, “Ever since Charlie’s departure, things have been different – he’s number four. Of course, he’s dearly missed.”
However, he went on to express that the new album would feature Steve Jordan, who has stepped into Watts’ shoes as the drummer. Richards noted that the band had known Jordan for a long time, and he had filled in for Watts during their summer tour.
Richards also mentioned, “It would have been much tougher without Charlie’s approval.” He explained that Watts had previously advised the band that Jordan should take his place if he ever couldn’t participate in recording.
Watts, who succumbed to throat cancer in 2021 at the age of 80, passed away before the band’s 60th-anniversary tour.
Sir Mick elaborated on the album’s contents, stating, “The album consists of 12 tracks. Most of them feature Steve, but two are recordings from 2019 with Charlie.”
